How exactly do you catch Shiny Piplup during the upcoming Community Day festivities? Read on to find out.
How to Find and Catch Shiny Piplup
During the short window of time when the Pokemon GO January 2020 Community Day hours are taking place, you’ll find a vastly increased number of shiny Pokemon spawning around the map. You’ll also find far more of the Pokemon, Piplup, as you walk around collecting ‘mons and spinning PokeStops.
The important thing to know for this Piplup-themed Community Day event is the hours that the event will run. You have exactly three hours to participate, after which the Shiny Piplup spawn rate will decrease dramatically. Those hours are:
Northern hemisphere: 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. Southern hemisphere: 3 p. m. to 6 p. m.
Shiny Pokemon are much tougher to catch than their regular variants, so it’s important that you stock up on the right kinds of Pokeballs.
In order to catch Shiny Piplup during the allotted Community Day event hours, you’ll want to stock up on Great Balls or Ultra Balls, which will both allow you to have a greater chance at catching the Shiny Piplup when/if it appears for you.
You can also spin PokeStops for eggs, which you can hatch Piplup out of with an Incubator. For extra Incubators and extra Pokeballs, you can always check out the shop and buy them directly with gold coins, which are purchasable via microtransactions or obtainable by sending Pokemon to stay in gyms belonging to your team’s color.
There are also new Community Day special boxes that appear in the store each month, so it’s likely that they’ll appear this Community Day as well. They’re available in the shop, and they contain a heap of Incubators and Pokeballs that can help you catch Shiny Piplup this January 19.
